A new app has been launched to connect and celebrate women 'living solo' across Waterford and beyond.
The app, 'Willow', was launched by Imelda McAloon with the aim of helping women across Ireland and the UK to embrace and celebrate independent living.
The free community platform is designed for women who are navigating life solo - whether by choice or circumstance - offering connection, support, and inspiration.
Through resources, online and in-person events, and an active community, Willow creates a space where women can share experiences, find friendships, and explore opportunities for joy and growth.
Commenting on the app, Imelda, who is from Roslea in County Fermanagh, said: “Willow is all about celebrating the courage, freedom, and possibilities of living independently."
"While many resources are geared towards couples or parents, Willow is designed with solo women in mind; women who want meaningful friendships, to travel, to learn, and to embrace all that independent living offers," she said.
"Women who don’t follow the so-called ‘traditional path’ often tell me they feel overlooked," she added.
Imelda said the app will give women a space where they are not only seen but celebrated.
"It’s about connection, courage, and joy; finding fulfillment and beauty in life, whatever shape it takes,” she said.
Willow’s first expert-led event, 'Financial Wellness for Women', with Deirdre McCarthy of Financial Literacy Ireland (FLIT.ie), takes place online on September 3 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
"This free event will explore how women can take control of their financial wellbeing at every stage of life," said Imelda.
Other upcoming sessions will include 'Coping with Significant Life Changes', with psychologist and author Niamh Fitzpatrick, on December 3, with more events to be announced.
"From interest-based groups such as hiking, crochet, and pets, to wellbeing resources and social events, Willow is a place where women can connect, learn, and thrive," said Imelda.
