Nearly €600 worth of products stolen from Shaws in Waterford
He received eight months' imprisonment for the large theft from Shaws.
A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to prison for a series of offences he committed in Waterford, including a large theft from Shaws in the city centre.
John Sprice, of 93 Priory Lawn, Ballybeg, pleaded guilty to offences contrary to the Road Safety Act and to section 4 theft. The offences took place on dates in 2023 to 2025.
On September 30, 2025, Sprice took six bottles of perfume from Shaws. The total value of the products amounted to €589. None of the items he took were recovered.
In October 2023, he stole a bottle of perfume worth €35 from the same store.
On dates in 2023 and 2024, he stole €7.99 worth of products and €10.99 worth of products from TK Maxx.
In an incident that occurred on Stephen’s Day 2025, Sprice unlawfully took a vehicle from his former partner without her permission and drove it while intoxicated.
He was arrested on the same date for intoxicated driving.
The man has nine previous convictions. In March of this year, he was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for his involvement in scamming a Kerry woman out of nearly €20,000.
For driving whilst intoxicated, the man received a two-year disqualification from driving.
He received eight months' imprisonment for the large theft from Shaws.
The other offences were taken into consideration.
