A motorist was caught travelling at a speed of 186km/h near Waterford over the bank holiday weekend.
The Gardaí began a road policing operation at 7am on Thursday, August 1, at a number of locations around the country.
A spokesperson told Waterford News & Star that a number of speeding offences were detected around the country. The local incident occurred on the N24 at Tibberaghny, in Piltown, Co Kilkenny, with the Garda spokesperson describing as "especially dangerous".
The area in question is governed by a 100km/h speed limit.
"Gardaí are out detecting poor driving behaviours such as driving above the speed limit, as part of a the August Bank Holiday road safety operation," said the spokesperson.
So far, almost 125,317 vehicles have been checked for speeding over the course of the weekend.
"It is positive that the majority of motorists are travelling within the designated speed, however, 440 drivers have been detected and some have been especially dangerous," said the spokesperson.
On the R510 Dock Road in Limerick a motorist was detected travelling at 93km/h in a 50km/h speed zone while in Conwall, Letterkenny, in Co Donegal, a motorist drove at 112km/h in an area governed by an 80km/h speed limit.
Meanwhile, on the N4 at Drishoge, Carrick-on-Shannon, in Co Roscommon, a motorist was detected travelling at 107km/h in a 60km/h speed zone.
"An Garda Síochána continue to monitor and conduct checkpoints on our roads, using our technology to detect those speeding nationwide.
