Minister for State John Cummins has said he welcomes the news of the private investment proposal for Waterford Airport.
Minister Cummins told the Waterford News and Star that he has been given an overview by Waterford City and County Council CEO Sean McKeown, Airport Company Chairman Michael Walsh and director William Bolster.
“I respect the process which is currently underway and it is important that Waterford city and county councillors are given the space to consider the proposal.
“The delivery of the runway extension project is critical for connectivity and economic growth in the South East.
"As a former board director, I have always advocated strongly for this project and ensured its inclusion in the Programme for Government earlier this year.
“I am very hopeful that a positive outcome can be achieved, which will see the runway project and critical air connectivity for South East passengers restored,” said Minister Cummins.
Minister Cummins also said that he was looking forward to working within the government to ensure OPEX (operational) support is provided to Waterford Airport under the Regional Airports Programme, when commercial air connectivity is in place.
