Minister Butler "deeply disappointed" with Fianna Fáil colleague's comments on Waterford Airport

Minister Butler was disappointed with her Fianna Fáil party colleague's comments on Waterford Airport
Waterford Minister of State Mary Butler TD, has expressed disappointment over comments made by her Fianna Fáíl party colleague, Minister James Lawless, with regard to Waterford Airport.
In answering questions on the business case for extending the runway at the airport - which was raised in the Dáil on Thursday by Independent Waterford TD, Matt Shanahan - Minister Lawless described the airport as "a pig in a poke".
His comments were criticised by a number of people, however, his party colleague, Minister Butler issued a statement to Waterford News & Star in which she said: "I am deeply disappointed with the phrase Minister Lawless used in the Dail when answering questions on the Waterford Airport runway extension on Thursday. My personal belief is that it certainly is a viable business case. I have strongly advocated for it in recent months along with my Government colleagues."
However, she also appeared to suggest Minister Lawless might not have fully meant what he said, stating that sometimes "throwaway remarks" can be said in the heat of debate, commenting: "The cut and thrust of politics and the heat of debate can lead to throwaway remarks. I believe now is the time for cool heads and I will continue to work with all stakeholders to secure this necessary funding."
