Michael St development taking 'longer that the National Children's Hospital'
Michael Street has lost a number of businesses in the last few years.
The long-awaited development of Michael Street was compared to the National Children's Hospital by the Mayor of Waterford.
The project was first proposed for development as part of the North Quays. Previous plans have included the development of apartments, retail offerings and a hotel in the area. BAM began construction on the National Children's Hospital in 2016 and missed their completion deadline 18 times.
At a recent meeting Mayor of Waterford Seamus Ryan asked if there was an update on the development, commenting: "The new Michael Street Development seems to be taking longer than the National Children's Hospital. What's happening to this? I believe this to be as important as the North Quays development, because it is linking all of that area and hopefully we'll see additional retail."
Senior Executive Officer Donal Ó'Murchadha said: "The most recent update I had was a report from the senior management of the Executive Local Authority with the final design being discussed through planning and housing."
