Minister Mary Butler will contest the General Election for Fianna Fáil in Waterford

Junior Minister Mary Butler has been chosen to contest the upcoming general election for Fianna Fáil in Waterford.

Minister Butler was formally selected at the party's convention at Lawlor's Hotel, Dungarvan, on Thursday evening, August 22. 

Councillor Adam Wyse was also contested the selection convention.  

Minister Butler, who is the Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, received 135 votes while Cllr Wyse received 35.

Cllr Wyse offered warm congratulations to Minister Butler, commenting: “The membership has chosen to select Junior Minister Mary Butler through the convention process, which is expected for the sitting TD to come through convention. I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Mary, her family, her supporters and wish her the very best of luck in the general election."

"I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me during this campaign, and to those who sent kind messages," said Cllr Wyse. "I am extremely grateful."

MEP Billy Kelleher chaired the convention and afterwards commented: “Congrats to my great friend and top class Minister Mary Butler TD, on her win. Mary has been a wonderful colleague and a great public representative. Special mention to Cllr Adam Wyse for putting his name forward.”
