Mark Zuckerberg paid more than €51m for Waterford castle
The castle’s new occupants are expected to use the Waterford property while spending time in Ireland, where Meta has its international headquarters and employs around 1,500 people.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO and co-founder, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, paid more than €51 million for Strancally Castle in Co Waterford, according to the Property Price Register.
The billionaire couple purchased the historic property near Knockanore in August, with the sale understood to have been completed on August 17.
The sale figure of €51,171,155, which was published on Wednesday, October 7, is close to double the estimated price tag put on the property in August.
The previous estimation put the castle’s sale somewhere between €20 million and €30 million.
The confirmed price of over €51 million reportedly includes the amount paid for the principal residence and up to an acre of land, meaning the couple’s total spend for the castle is much higher than what appears on the register when the entire 440-acre estate is considered.
Following the purchase, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg said the family was looking forward to spending time in Ireland and continuing to care for the historic property.
The castle’s new occupants are expected to use the Waterford property while spending time in Ireland, where Meta has its international headquarters and employs around 1,500 people.
