Man ‘ripped off’ over failed drug deal in Waterford City
Waterford Courthouse.
A man who lost his money in a drug deal made a false report to Gardaí claiming he had been ‘robbed’.
Teibor Kobova (29) attempted to buy cannabis from three men at a premises on King’s Terrace, Waterford City, on August 13, 2025. He paid the men €180 but did not receive the drugs.
Kobova gave a statement shortly afterwards to Garda Eddie Weafer at Waterford Garda Station. He claimed the men had threatened him and robbed him of his money and medicine.
CCTV footage of the area revealed that no such "robbery" took place.
Kobova, of Apt 2, Aylesbury Manor, Johnstown Road, Waterford, was charged for making gains or causing loss by deception and making a false report.
At Waterford District Court, Judge John Cheatle said the accused had been "ripped off" by the men.
The court heard Kobova had a cannabis addiction, brought on in part by a pelvis injury he sustained as a teenager.
Judge Cheatle placed Kobova on a 12-month supervision bond.
