Man caught stealing from Dunnes Stores on CCTV
He was found stealing a tub of face cream from Dunnes.
A man denied stealing a €9 tub of face cream, only to be caught on CCTV by the presiding Judge.
Olegs Hivrics (49), of Kilcohan Park, Waterford, contested a single charge of theft at Waterford District Court before Judge John Cheatle.
On August 15, 2026, a security guard working in Dunnes Stores in City Square Shopping Centre observed Hivrics acting suspiciously and walking towards the exits. As the security guard tried to stop him, Hivrics said: "Search me."
The guard said Dunnes security has a policy of not searching customers. Gardaí were called to intervene.
In court, Gardaí showed footage of Hivrics standing at the aisle looking intently at the products and reaching far into the shelf.
Hivrics denied taking the item, saying: "I can't see that at all."
Judge Cheatle said that he was 'fully satisfied' that the footage showed Hivrics taking the product from 'behind the blaas'.
After being found guilty, the court heard the accused had 22 previous convictions, including theft and criminal damage charges.
He was placed on a supervision bond for 12 months.
