Man pleads guilty to hitting security guard with a crutch
Judge John Cheatle accepted jurisdiction over the matter and requested a victim impact statement be procured.
A man appeared in court last week for hitting a security guard with a crutch during a dispute.
On August 2, 2025, a security guard in Aldi, City Square, noticed Michael Furlong (44) acting suspiciously.
Furlong, with an address at 370 St. John’s Park, Waterford, removed a security tag from a bottle of alcohol.
The security guard approached Furlong, who began shouting at him.
Furlong then hit him in the face with his crutch, causing injuries to his lip.
He has pleaded guilty to assault causing harm.
His defence solicitor Hilary Delahunty said that a probation report will be need to be procured prior to sentencing.

The matter will return to court in July.
