A man who stole medication from a pharmacy in Tramore has been granted bail at Waterford District Court.

Louis McCarthy (34) of 4A Kickham House, Tramore, Co. Waterford was charged with  burglary and theft at Brennan’s Pharmacy in two incidents, July 18 and 28, 2025.

On the second occasion, the defendant allegedly stole €500 worth of medication.

Gardaí objected to bail on the grounds that, in their opinion, if released, the defendant was likely to commit further offences.

Garda Emma Comerford told the court that the defendant had been captured on CCTV on both occasions.

He has a number of previous convictions, one of which was committed while he was on bail.

The garda said the defendant is a drug user, and there is a risk of interference with witnesses, as he lives in close proximity to the premises.

Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham told the court that his client was cooperative with gardaí and had assisted in the recovery of the tablets.

The defendant also works for a local business.

Judge John King granted the defendant bail on his own bond of €400 and ordered him to stay away from the premises where the offence was allegedly committed.

He put the matter back to October 14, 2025.

“If he comes to garda attention in the meantime, I have no doubt the guards will come looking for an arrest warrant," said Judge King.
