Man gets six-year ban from driving
Akachukwu appeared at Waterford District Court.
A Ferrybank man has received a six-year disqualification for driving without insurance or a licence.
Clinton Akachukwu, of 82 Abbeylands, Ferrybank, appeared at Waterford District Court this week before Judge Mark O’Connell.
On May 22, 2025, Akachukwu (23) was observed driving a black Suzuki car without insurance on Fountain Steet by Garda Mark Ryan. After being stopped, he failed to produce an insurance certificate or a driving licence.
The court heard from Inspector Joe O’Neill that the accused had 12 previous convictions. On December 18, 2025, he received an 18-month suspended sentence from Kilkenny Circuit Court for sale and supply contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Solicitor Ken Cunningham asked Garda Ryan if he had dealings with Akachukwu in his "checkered" past. Garda Ryan agreed Akachukwu had improved in recent years and was a "different man". Mr Cunningham asked the Garda if he’d agree that his client had a strong work history. Garda Ryan said: “Yes, Judge, he has worked for as long as I've known him."
Jude O'Connell imposed a six-year disqualification from driving. Akachukwu is due before Kilkenny Circuit Court in July 2026 in relation to his earlier suspended sentence.
