A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in her 80s, whose body was found at her home in West Waterford.

Finnegan ‘Finn’ Yowell (33), with an address at Old School House, in Ticknock, County Waterford, in the Kinsalebeg area, was charged with the murder of Noreen Daly, an 81-year-old woman who was found dead at her home in Ardsallagh by gardaí on Sunday.

Dressed in white trousers and a white jumper, Mr Yowell appeared before Judge John O’Leary at Carrick-on-Suir District Court.

Detective Garda Stephen Condon of Dungarvan Garda Station gave evidence to the court.

Mr Yowell was arrested on Tuesday morning and held in custody.

He made no response to the charge.

His solicitor Ken Cunningham requested that the accused be psychiatrically and medically examined. 

Judge O’Leary granted the request and added that he be treated as was necessary.

No application for bail was made.

He was remanded in custody.

Mr Yowell will appear before Clonmel District Court next Tuesday, June 23.
