Significant works have commenced on the N25 and at the Carrick Road Roundabout outside Waterford City.

N25

The N25 roadworks from Carroll's Cross to Ballyduff East commenced on Monday, July 7, with temporary traffic management in place daily from 7am to 7pm, ongoing until mid-September.

The works entail resurfacing a section of the busy road.

Enquiring about the nature of the works last week, Cllr John O'Leary asked if delays which drivers are currently experiencing could be minimised.

Cllr O'Leary said: "While I always welcome roadworks in the Comeragh area, there have been long delays and a bit of public disquiet."

Responding to the comment, Waterford City and County Council Director of Services Gabriel Hynes said that there is currently a stop/go system in place on the road.

"Over the next two months, unfortunately there will be delays," he added.

"The contractor will minimise it as best they can, but given the volume of traffic and the stop/go system in place you're going to have delays. We’re apologising for that in advance and unfortunately there's very little we can do about it, we need to get the works done."

Carrick Road Roundabout

Cllr John O'Leary has regularly been asking for updates during Comeragh District Council meetings regarding works to the Carrick Road Roundabout.

He quipped during a meeting last week: "Maybe I was dreaming, but I thought I saw roadworks commencing there this morning."

Gabriel Hynes confirmed that works have commenced, which consist of landscaping the roundabout itself, and reducing the number of lanes approaching the roundabout.

"All approaches will now be one lane with the exception of the approach from the motorway" he said.
