Local Una Jackman celebrates 100th birthday

Ms. Una Jackman

Beloved local, Ms. Una Jackman recently celebrated her one hundredth birthday with friends, family and residents at Waterford Residential Care Centre (formerly St. Patrick's) in Grange Upper.

Una has sang in local choirs, and along with having a beautiful voice herself, she also comes from a family of musical talent.

Her brother is the late Val Doonican, who passed away in July 2015.

Una Jackman is the only surviving member of that generation of her family.

Waterford native Michael 'Val' Doonican had a string of hits in the 1960s and early 70s and was rarely out of the charts.

He also became a household name in Britain, with The Val Doonican Show running on BBC for over two decades. In June 2011, he was recognised by the Mayor of Waterford, who bestowed on him the Freedom of Waterford City.

A video of Ms. Jackman serenading friends with a classy rendition of 'Send in the Clowns' is available to view at Waterford-news.ie
