Legality of new parking meters in Waterford is questioned

Questions were asked about the parking machines.
Council executives have said they are satisfied that parking bylaws allow for new parking metres to ask for users to input their car registration numbers.
The new machines require users to input their car registration number before purchasing a ticket.
Cllr Eamon Quinlan asked Council Executives last week for clarity regarding the legality of asking users for their registration number.
“I don’t recall amending our parking and traffic bylaws. So I’m wondering on what legal basis the council is doing this?”.
In response, Waterford Council Director of Services, Gabriel Hynes said the council was "satisfied that the parking byelaws are adequate to cover the changes in relation to the requirement of providing car registration".
Mr. Hynes added that the new machines have been largely welcomed by locals.
“We have new parking machines installed, they tie into our parking app which has been very welcomed by a lot of people parking."
