Intercity buses will run from Waterford's new transport hub

At a recent meeting, a senior engineer for Waterford City and County Council, Seán Dobbs, confirmed that inter-city buses will stop at the new transport hub on the North Quays when it opens in 2027.

Fine Fáil Councillor and Metropolitan Mayor Adam Wyse raised the issue, saying: “I’ve heard reports of the bus station on the south quays site not wanting to move from that location; will the bus station be completely integrated into the transport hub on the north side?” 

Fine Gael Councillor Pat Nugent added: “It’s not feasible for people to walk down the quays, over the transport bridge and up to the bus station. It’s definitely twice as long as what people are currently doing.” 

While Mr Dobbs confirmed that the location of the bus station in Waterford will remain in its current location, plans have been made to connect the two. He said: “The Bus Connects plan will extend bus services to the train station on the North Quays.” 

He said that specific bus journeys and their frequencies have not yet been confirmed, “But there is a facility for buses to stop directly outside the train station that also includes intercity buses, so it's not just local bus services.”
