A car went on fire on Waterford city's Bridge Street this evening, causing significant delays in the area of Rice Bridge.
Bridge Street has been temporarily closed both ways as emergency services attend the scene, including a number of units from the Fire Service.
Emergency Services were called to the scene at approximately 6.50pm.

According to a witness close to the scene - which happened adjacent to the Fitzwilton Hotel and St Saviour's Church - the car spontaneously caught fire. While the blaze was intense and dramatic, nearby buildings do not appear to be affected. Also, the occupants of the car were uninjured.
The public is advised to avoid the area if possible.
