Rockabilly throwback band to take Tramore in Waterford by storm

Local band Alan Power and the Aftershocks are set to play The Vic in Tramore on Friday 27 September.

Rockabilly fans are in for a real treat in Waterford with local band, Alan Power and the Aftershocks, set to play The Vic in Tramore, on Friday September 27.

With a blend of rock and roll and blues, with country music inspirations, the band draws influences from the ‘Architect of Rock and Roll’, Little Richard and one of the earliest rock and roll groups, The Platters. Their sound is sure to have everyone in Tramore rocking along.

The four-man band features, frontman Alan Power, bassist Cian Dalton and drummer Jimmy 'Jim Law' Shields, all from Waterford, and Wexford’s Liam Ascott, on the drums. The bands distinctive look is straight from the 50s, in traditional rockabilly style. The genre of music dates back to the early days of rock and roll, the term coming from a combination of ‘rock and roll’ with ‘hillbilly’. Whether you’re familiar with their music or looking to dip your toe into the style, Alan Power and the Aftershocks are a must-see act.

Formed in 2022, the band have experienced a “whirlwind of two years” since the first members met at a showing of 'Elvis', says Dalton. During that time the Rockabilly band across Ireland, the UK and Europe playing at different festivals. This year they played a gig in America for the first time, performing in Wisconsin at the start of the summer, with the bassist commenting: "It was just an incredible experience."

The best is yet to come for the local band, however, with the group set to play at their biggest festival yet next February, the Rockin' Race Jamboree in Spain.
