Record crowds turned out for a whole host of events across Waterford City and county over the past fortnight for this year’s extended South East Science Festival programme.
The South East Science Festival programme ran from November 8 to 16, across pubs, restaurants, libraries, theatres, schools and community hubs across Waterford city and county, Clonmel and Carlow.
Engagement in a range of free and ticketed events from comedy to wine tasting, a coastal erosion workshop and walk, to a family-focused show showcasing the science behind magic had audiences enthralled, the organisers said.
Provisional figures suggest that as many as 6,000 people attended festival events in the region.
Dr Sheila Donegan, Director of CALMAST, the South East Technological University’s STEM engagement centre, said a host of new events focusing around this were a phenomenal success.
“We add new events to the programme each and every year to keep things contemporary, to keep our audiences engaged and grow our reach.
"The level of enthusiasm and engagement again this year augurs very well for the sector,” Dr Donegan said.
