The SpeakEasy literary evening is turning to the world of prose for its next event on Friday, March 27. It will feature the novelist and poet Nuala O'Connor, and is taking place at 8pm on March 27 in Phil Grimes Pub, Waterford city.
Nuala O’Connor lives in County Galway. Her most recent novel Seaborne was shortlisted for Novel of the Year at the 2024 Irish Book Awards and nominated for the 2025 Dublin Literary Award. She is currently writing a memoir about late-diagnosed autism. Her seventh novel will be published in 2027.
Nuala is a member of Aosdána, a group of artists who have been honoured by the Arts Council for their extensive contribution to the arts in Ireland.
SpeakEasy's featured musician is Ellie Mackey, a singer-songwriter who has developed a strong local profile under her performing name, EJ Mae. She will be familiar to listeners of WLR FM and Beat 102-103 as a radio presenter.
The open mic event at SpeakEasy is going from strength to strength, as local writers at all levels share their poetry and pieces of short prose. All writers are welcome to come along and read their work at the open mic; they can submit their names on the night.
SpeakEasy is sponsored by the Arts Office, Waterford City and County Council, with support from The Granville Hotel and Phil Grimes Pub. Entry is €5 on the door, cash only.
