New book on historic Irish figure launching in Waterford next week

New book on James Connolly launching next week.
A new book, The Lost and Early Writings of James Connolly, 1889-1898, has been released, shedding light on the formative years of one of the 20th century’s most influential socialist thinkers and revolutionary leaders.
Edited by Dr Conor McCabe, the collection brings together a wealth of Connolly’s earliest articles, letters, and speeches, many of which have remained unpublished or inaccessible for over a century.
Waterford Council of Trade Unions (WCTU) will host the launch of the book on Tuesday, November 26, at 6pm in The Book Centre, Waterford, with a discussion on the book on the evening from Dr Conor McCabe.
Conor McCabe is a historian and author with expertise in Irish history, labour movements, and economic policy. His meticulous research and commitment to uncovering untold stories have established him as a leading voice in historical scholarship.
This new historic compilation captures Connolly’s intellectual and political evolution as he grappled with the intersecting struggles for workers’ rights, socialism, and Irish independence.
From sharp critiques of capitalism and imperialism to incisive analyses of social and economic justice, these writings reveal the seeds of Connolly’s revolutionary ideas that would later galvanize radical movements in Ireland and beyond.
Whilst highlighting themes of solidarity, equality, and resistance, the book captures the enduring relevance of Connolly’s vision in addressing the political and social challenges of today.
The release of the book, which includes lost works of Connolly’s, marks a significant contribution to Irish history, labour studies, and political theory, providing scholars, activists, and general readers with a deeper understanding of Connolly’s legacy.
