Latest 'Life and Songs' gig celebrates one of Ireland's greatest bands
The Wolfe Tones
Performed by singer and storyteller Derek Flynn, the latest gig in the "Life and Songs" series will combine live music, history, and narrative to explore the enduring legacy of the Wolfe Tones and their songs that defined generations.
To date, 'The Life and Song' series has told the stories and sang the tunes of iconic musical icons, including Amy Winehouse, Luke Kelly, Neil Diamond, Fleetwood Mac, Leonard Cohen and more.
The series not only reminisces on the timeless music of the artists featured, but also details their thrilling life stories.
Formed in Dublin in 1963, the Wolfe Tones became synonymous with Irish folk and rebel music, using song to tell stories of struggle, identity, exile, and pride.
In the upcoming special performance, Derek Flynn traces the band’s journey from their early days through their rise to international fame, placing their music within the wider social and political history of modern Ireland.
The evening features performances of many of the Wolfe Tones’ most iconic songs, including: 'The Men Behind the Wire', 'Come Out Ye Black and Tans', 'Joe McDonnell', 'Grace', 'Streets of New York' and 'A Nation Once Again'.
Alongside the music, Flynn provides commentary and anecdotes that give context to the lyrics and explain why these songs resonated so deeply with audiences at home and abroad.
He said: "Expect an evening of stirring melodies, rich storytelling, and a shared appreciation of Irish musical heritage in the intimate and atmospheric setting of the Coastguard Cultural Centre."
Early booking for the upcoming event is advised.
The event takes place at the Coastguard Cultural Centre, Tramore on Saturday, February 21.
