A 15-year-old Waterford singer has big dreams as she releases debut single
Hannah English
Waterford City singer-songwriter Hannah English, aged 15, has released her debut single ‘Living in a Lie’, available now on all platforms
Raised in Waterford, Hannah grew up on pop, inspired by artists like Taylor Swift, and credits One Direction and Little Mix as key influences that helped spark her love for music.
Her songwriting started young, she says.
“My earliest memory of creating music was when I was nine. I made up a song in my bedroom.”
She added that she first realised she wanted to perform after joining her local stage school, where she now takes to the stage twice a year.
Hannah's debut single, ‘Living in a Lie’ is rooted in real emotion.
She says she wrote it after dealing with people who weren’t honest with her and left her feeling unwanted.
The message, she says, is about getting clarity, protecting your self-worth and moving forward.
The single was produced by Colm and Alan, and Hannah describes the studio experience as exciting and positive.
“It was fun working with them and I can’t wait to work with them again” she says.
A music video and photoshoot were also part of the release build-up, with Hannah sharing a small behind-the-scenes moment from the day: during filming, she and Dan, her video producer, stumbled across a random rearview mirror in a car park and decided to use it as a prop.
She also credits Steve Bloor (SBM Global Media) for the photos and says it was “a lovely day.”
Away from the studio, Hannah balances school life and songwriting, often carrying a notebook in case a lyric springs to mind that she needs to note down.
She explains, “I bring a notebook with me just in case I get a sudden lyric idea, or im just bored and want to do something.”
Looking ahead, Hannah’s focus is simple, keep going, keep writing, and keep improving.
Her goals for the year include making more music and eventually putting on her own show, with dream ambitions that stretch as far as performing in Madison Square Garden.
