The Gardaí in Waterford urge the public to be wary of prank call after a member of the force received a "chancer" call.
In an online post the Gardaí said that a member based in Dungarvan Garda Station a call today on Tuesday (today) "from a right chancer".
"The initial message indicated that their Revolut account had been charged €80 for their Prime membership," noted the Gardaí.
"The 'helpful' caller went on to tell them he would recoup their money and then directed them to the Play Store to download an app called ' any desk'," they said, before noting: "This was of course so they could gain access to the Garda's phone and relieve him of all his Communion money.
"Thankfully the wise old Garda was only leading this chancer along and had no intention of carrying out these illicit instructions."
The Gardaí then offered the following advice to the public: Remember never share your bank details online or over the phone, never download any third party apps which may allow criminals access to your personal data and finally if you are in any doubt ring the bank directly.
Any Desk is actually a genuine app but the public need to be vigilant.
