Gardaí in Waterford warn of prevalent scam

Gardaí in Waterford have warned local people over a prevalent scam text being circulated.

The messages come with a fake link which deceivingly claims to lead to gov.ie, claiming that a discounted electricity bill under the emergency benefit scheme can be applied for.

A spokesperson said: "No action is needed to avail of the government electricity credit; if you are the account holder you'll get the credit on your bill.

"Don't click on the link and always be cautious with who you share your personal data with."
