A Mayoral Reception was hosted last week in honour of three outstanding athletes from Master Franks Taekwondo in Waterford, who recently represented the city and county with distinction at the European Taekwondo Championships in Slovenia.

The reception was hosted by Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Liam Brazil. It was his first reception in City Hall since being elected Mayor last Thursday.

The event recognised and celebrated the success story of athletes Christine Franks, Ben Murphy and Chloe Hennessy.

Christine Franks delivered an exceptional performance in Slovenia, securing the title of European Champion in individual sparring and winning a gold medal, in addition to a bronze medal in team sparring.

This accomplishment is made even more remarkable by her recent recovery from breast cancer.

Mayor Brazil said the achievement reflected her “extraordinary courage, resilience and determination.”
