Councillor Jim Darcy welcomed a variation to the Waterford City and County Development Plan which will see an extension of the Ardkeen river walk.
The walk is planned to be extended right into the city centre.
He said: “I think the possibilities there to get cars off the road, for the environment. To be able to walk from Passage [East] or Cheekpoint into the city centre, to make that happen is a good days work.”
