Gardaí from the Waterford Roads Policing Unit seized two cars from learner drivers in separate incidents over the weekend.

In a post on social media, Waterford gardaí said that in the first instance, while on patrol, they observed a motorist run a red light.

They discovered the driver was an unaccompanied learner and seized the car.

Gardaí say the driver will receive a fine and penalty points.

In the second incident on Saturday morning, gardaí were conducting a checkpoint.

They seized a vehicle from another learner driver who was not only unaccompanied but had no L-plates.

Waterford gardaí say the driver had failed the test multiple times.

In addition to the seizure of the car, the driver will be issued a fine and penalty points.

Gardai said not to take any risks and be informed of your responsibilities.

They recommended checking out Citizens Information for what you need to do as a learner driver.
