Mount Sion CBS Secondary School have announced the appointment of a design team to progress its highly anticipated new school expansion project. 

The project will involve the demolition of the current school building and replacing it with new modern educational accommodation to meet the needs of the 500 students. The works will also include a four class Special Education Needs base. 

Representatives from the school have said that the recent appointment marks a significant step forward in providing state-of-the-art educational facilities on its city centre location for both students and staff.

The design team will be lead by David Clarke and Eoin Bennett (Moloney O'Beirne Architects, Dublin) who have extensive experience in designing modern school buildings and are presently the architects overseeing the Waterpark College project.

Also appointed is Tadhg Sutton (Carron and Walsh Quantity Surveyors), John McBeath (O.C.S.C. Structural Engineers) and Peet Pelser (Hayes Higgins Partnership Mechanical and Electrical Engineers).

A spokesperson from Mount Sion CBS commented on the advancement, saying: "The newly appointed design team is eager to embark on the architectural planning phase of this exciting new project. 

"The new Mount Sion CBS Secondary School will be a modern showcase of excellence within the Edmund Rice network of schools, reflecting its proud history and heritage on its current Waterford City location."

Representatives from the school added that the project reflects the school's continued growth: "The school’s journey over the last 15 years has been truly remarkable and transformative. Its enrolment has trebled, it has broadened its curriculum to meet the needs of a modern diverse school community and it continues to remain steadfast in providing education deep-rooted in the Edmund Rice tradition. 

"The announcement of the new school is a true vote of confidence in the quality of its educational provision. We look forward to sharing more updates as this project progresses."
