De La Salle Scout Group are organising the fourth annual Comeragh Crossing.

De La Salle Scout Group are embarking on a gruelling 27 kilometre traverse of the Comeragh Mountain range.

In previous years up to 40 hikers participated in the hike, which begins in early morning hours and continues through the night, helping to raise funds for the local scout group.

This year's hike will commence at Power’s The Pot at dusk and culminate at Dalligan Bridge at dawn.

“This is our fourth year of the Comeragh Crossing and we are hoping to build more of a profile in the scouting community nationally,” said organiser Robert Windle.

“We are inviting scouters who are interested and possess the correct level of hiking experience to join us this year. The event is geared towards adults but we will accept youth members who are at least 16 as the intensity of the hike is very high, given the fact that this is a through the night event comprising a 27 kilometre traverse of the entire Comeragh range.

“We have enjoyed the success of this event over the last number of years, and we hope this can be our biggest year yet,” he added.

There will be quite a few hours of darkness throughout the traverse. Night navigation skills, a good level of physical fitness and mountaineering knowledge are prerequisites.

Anyone can take part and the fee is €50 per entrant. The group are accepting donations through GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/2cfcfce5
