Council has 'no influence at all' to improve Waterford's Mount Suir apartment complex
Mount Suir apartment complex on Carrickpherish Road.
Residents in Mount Suir are being 'abandoned' by the local authority because of controlling management, according to a local councillor.
Councillor Joe Kelly made the statement at a recent council meeting. He said: "We're completely hamstrung as a Council to deal or service any of the apartments where we have our tenants, we have no influence at all.
"There's a main property owner who has something like 50 properties so they control that committee. We have nobody on it. In March, two children fell from a balcony of an apartment in Mount Suir."
According to Councillor Kelly, another person suffered a fall in recent weeks: "The condition in some of the apartments, Councillor Jim Griffin and I have been in them, is shocking. An individual there again last week had something fall on top of them. In the weeks before that he was injured when he fell over the floorboards that were raised.
"Our people tell us that we can do nothing about it, we have to go through OMC."
OMC (Owners Management Company) is the controlling committee of the Mount Suir complex.
