Contactless payments arrive on TFI Local Link services in Waterford
The programme's rollout in Waterford follows a successful pilot scheme on Local Link services in Cavan and Monaghan
Passengers using TFI Local Link services across Waterford can now enjoy the convenience of contactless payments as part of the latest phase of the National Transport Authority's (NTA) nationwide rollout of contactless payments.
Passengers can now tap and pay using debit and credit cards, as well as digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, making travel more convenient and effortless, the NTA have said.
The programme's rollout in Waterford follows a successful pilot scheme on Local Link services in Cavan and Monaghan and subsequent rollouts across a number of Waterford's neighbouring counties.
Contactless payment is currently available for single-journey fares, where daily and weekly fare products remain available through the Leap website and the TFI Leap Top-Up App.
TFI Leap cards, cash payments and Free Travel Cards continue to be accepted across all eligible TFI Local Link services.
The measure forms part of the NTA’s ongoing programme to modernise public transport fare systems nationwide, with a particular focus on improving accessibility and enhancing the passenger experience in rural and regional communities.
Damien Tobin, General Manager at TFI Local Link Waterford, added:
“We are delighted to give our passengers across Waterford the added convenience of contactless payments.
"The feedback from other counties has been overwhelmingly positive, with passengers welcoming the simplicity and convenience of paying with a card or mobile device.
"This enhancement makes travelling easier for both regular customers and visitors, while supporting our continued commitment to keeping communities across County Waterford connected."
