Man arrested in connection with assault of woman in Cork

A man is being held for questioning in connection with an assault on a woman in Ballinlough on the south side of Cork city.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Churchyard Lane.
The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene.
She was subsequently transferred by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A man was arrested a short time later.
He is being detained at a Garda station in Cork. He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. 1984.
He can be detained for up to 24 hours before being released or charged.
