An injured walker was rescued from the Boola lakes in the Comeraghs over the weekend.

At approximately 3:27pm on Sunday afternoon, South Eastern Mountain Rescue (SEMRA) received a call from An Garda Síochána requesting assistance for a walker with an ankle injury.

By 5:40pm, the first SEMRA team members reached the injured walker’s location.

The casualty was assessed, a vacuum splint was applied, and they were placed onto a stretcher.

A different exit route out to Crotty’s lake was decided by the SEMRA team as the optimal route for the stretcher.

A spokesperson from the group expressed thanks to a local landowner who allowed access for the SEMRA vehicles, which shortened the duration of the stretcher carry considerably.

The casualty was transported towards a nearby road to an NAS ambulance.

Stand down issued at 8:29pm.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery” a spokesperson from SEMRA said.
