NTA asked to present Bus Connects for local authorities
The Government are not funding Bus Connects in Waterford.
Area Engineer John Tennyson spoke about a future presentation at the September meeting of the Piltown Municipal District.
The gathered Councillors heard about a possible presentation by the National Transport Authority (NTA) of their Bus Connects program to local authorities in both Waterford and Kilkenny.
Mr Tennyson said: "There's 15 to 16 bus stops in our area that are covered under Bus Connects. Our involvement so far has just been kind of guidance and giving some engineering comment on them but we will have to deliver a Section 38 for those bus stops on behalf of the NTA."
He continued: "In that regard, I've asked them to give a presentation on the Bus Connects program, not just here but in total covering the whole scheme."
Mr Tennyson did warn that it was 'not the policy' of the NTA to present the program in person, therefore it has to be done online. He said: "With that view, I'm proposing that it is done through a Teams meeting.
"I will get back to the NTA with a proposal of time, it will be late September, early October."
The proposal was shared only one day before the NTA announced that bus fares were to rise by 15% by 2027.
