Your Fitness: Small changes for a bigger impact
As you get comfortable with new habits and start experiencing the benefits, it becomes much easier to sustain them long term.
Something we often see with people looking to turn their life around when it comes to health and fitness. A desire to throw the kitchen sink at your current lifestyle completely eliminating old habits, and removing each variable that isn’t in direct alignment with your goal.
New habits and stricter protocols are then enforced with the view that this is the most optimal method of obtaining success.
Look, I get it. Speaking plainly - in an ideal world this will be the most optimal way of achieving success for a select set of individuals.
In reality, however, most of us have a lot going on in life.
Our lives often contain a multitude of responsibilities that may rank above our health and fitness goals during some periods in your life. In my opinion, balance here is key.
Pick three to five new habits you feel will be easy to incorporate into your life and what you’re already doing. Build on these habits as you become more competent in the initial habits set.
These habits can be as simple as getting to the gym two days per week, drinking a glass of water with each meal and aiming to consume 4-5 servings of fruit or veg throughout the day.
As you get comfortable with these habits and start experiencing the benefits, it becomes much easier to sustain them long term!
Small changes made to a lifestyle that can be sustained long-term are likely to have much more favourable outcomes when it comes to living a healthier and happier life.
Continuous education on awareness around this topic is normally what I would advise, in order to understand the role of certain health-focused behaviours - which makes them much easier to maintain!
