Your Fitness: Live and learn

'I firmly believe you are already winning if you find a fitness regime that you enjoy'
I believe a common theme in the fitness space - that has been conceptualised by individuals not obtaining the results they believe they are entitled to - is the idea that it doesn’t work for everyone.
While there is no doubt that genetics, age, gender and a multitude of other variables play a role in the amplitude and rate of progress when it comes to our fitness goals - it is not the deciding factor in achieving progress.
The likelihood is you haven’t found the right approach for you and your goals.
In some cases you may often find yourself comparing your progress to that of others - which can be as equally self-destructive in itself.
Unfortunately, some can end up in a vicious cycle.
We try the same things over and over, get fed up and quit just to go and try the same things again in a couple of months.
The cycle repeats.
Instead, we could reassess in terms of what we were doing and learn from the mistakes we may have been making.
Trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results has been previously defined as “insanity” in Ryan Holiday’s book “The Daily Stoic” - and I can see where this concept comes from.
I firmly believe you are already winning if you find a fitness regime that you enjoy, can keep consistent and gradually progress as time goes on.
A fitness regime where if you were to compare yourself to a year prior - you are in a better place.
While external motivation from the progress of others can be sometimes helpful, it is imperative that you are comparing yourself only to previous versions of you.
Get the small things right, aiming to be 1% better than the day before pays larger dividends in the long run and is something you will appreciate more as you start to see how far you’ve come!
