Your Fitness: How to approach a social event while on a diet!

One day of indulgence is very unlikely to undo the amount of progress you’ve made.
We’ve all likely been there, we accepted the invite and now have found ourselves in a flustered panic as the event date looms closer.
Whether this is a meal out, a night out, or even a wedding. The same worries pop up in our minds. What will I eat? What will I drink? How am I going to enjoy this guilt free?
Is this going to undo all the progress I’ve been making?
Fear not, however, I hope to provide some reassurance in this article and put your mind at ease!
When eating out away from the comforts of our own kitchen with meal prep in place and temptations out of easy reach - it can be overwhelming to find yourself in a situation where temptations are many and routine is absent.
However, there are plenty of basic principles we can follow to stay on a similar path.
An easy start can be delaying your first meal in an effort to reserve more calories for later that day, or maybe just eating a smaller meal than usual.
Another helpful tip can be opting for your protein source first and building your meal around it! Making an effort to drink plenty of water throughout the day and monitor portion sizes can also play in your favour.
While this may sound contradictory, it doesn’t really matter!
A diet can be hard, and requires no small amount of effort and discipline.
One day of indulgence is very unlikely to undo the amount of progress you’ve made!
One day is not going to undo weeks of effort. Enjoy yourself and approach the day in a way that limits stress.
While more adventurous goals, such as a bodybuilding prep, will need a more regimented approach, in general a meal out or night out is not going to have the negative outcomes we sometimes hypothesise.
These occurrences may slow down the rate of progress we may make in a given period of time - but are not a likely reason to stop us in our tracks.
Have fun, enjoy your meal and get straight back to your plan the next day.
