Your Fitness: 3 tips to make dieting easier!
Adding a generous portion of veg to your meal will result in a plethora of benefits.
Nobody said dieting was going to be easy, and the truth is - it’s not supposed to be! However, we can make the process less stressful by making some alterations to how we structure our diet!
These tips and tricks should help to better manage common issues like hunger and energy levels during a diet!
A common mistake I see people make during dieting. Consuming calorie dense, low volume foods. Basically small amounts of food that are high in calories.
A clever change here can be opting for lower calorie foods in larger portion sizes. This allows us to consume the same level of calories, while better satisfying hunger levels!
An example I like to use here is rice versus potatoes. 100 grams of rice is almost 350 calories, whereas 100 grams of white potatoes is roughly 80 calories. Therefore, 100 grams of rice is almost equivalent to 400 grams of potatoes!
I’m not saying to eat 400 grams of potato - but if I had a choice between these two foods in a diet, I know which one I’m choosing!
Similar to above, adding a generous portion of veg to your meal will result in a plethora of benefits. While there will be the benefits of multiple micronutrients, there is also the added bonus of fibre, which will help with digestion and will generally keep you feeling fuller for longer!
Consuming adequate water throughout the day can also be a helpful strategy to manage hunger levels.
Water will also help us in terms of hydration, energy levels and digestion.
Avoid calorie dense drinks like smoothies and full fat carbonated drinks. These are a waste of calories as you want the majority of your calories to come from solid foods, which are going to be more satisfying!
Zero cal drinks are also easily accessible, which help to mitigate any cravings you have for these and can be helpful to include as a treat every now and again!
As you can see, there are several strategies to better manage a diet, and this list is definitely not exhaustive!
Remember that a diet is not meant to be particularly easy. Hunger is usually a sign that it’s working, and is part of the dieting process in many cases. These strategies offer a productive way to better manage this while staying on track with your goals.
