In this article I hope to offer some insight on the health benefits we can acquire as a result of spending some time lifting weights as we get older.
Lifting weights is probably one of the best things you can do for bone density.
As we grow older we can become more susceptible to fractures and breaks as our bones density decreases.
Lifting weights helps to prevent and in many cases reverse these changes.
As we grow older we become more and more subject to losing our lean muscle mass and the strength that comes with it.
It is estimated that we start to lose 1-2% of our muscle mass per year once we turn 40.
Lifting weights is a great way to hold on to your muscle mass as you grow older and experience the many health benefits that come alongside have higher amounts of lean muscle mass.
With respect to the points above, the main take away can be the important role that lifting weights can play in our resilience, our strength and our function as we get older.
While there are many health benefits that will add years to your life - the other benefits are really what adds life to those years and makes it all the more worthwhile.
Start small and start implementing some form of resistance training into your life.
An hour or so two to three times a week is more than enough for most people to see results.
