Local Notes: Volunteer appreciation, sympathies, cemetery masses, hosepipe ban and more

The Water Conservation Order (hosepipe ban) for Stradbally and surrounding areas in County Waterford is in place until September 16.
Graveyard Masses in the Parish of Stradbally, Faha, and Ballylaneen, will take place on the following dates: Sacred Heart Church, Faha - Tuesday, August 5; St. Anne's Church, Ballylaneen - Wednesday, August 6 and Holy Cross Church, Stradbally - Friday, August 8. All masses will take place at 7pm.
Stradbally GAA and LGFA offer sincere sympathy to Ger Durkan, Knockrour, on the death of his mother Margaret, in Mayo, recently, and to Shane and Geena Aherne, Brenan, on the sudden death of Geena’s father, Tom Henebery, in Mooncoin.
Uisce Éireann has announced a Water Conservation Order (hosepipe ban) for Stradbally and surrounding areas in County Waterford until September 16. The measure aims to protect essential water supplies amid high demand and prolonged dry weather. Restrictions include banning garden hoses and non-essential water use. Rainfall in Waterford from May to July was significantly below average - with 104mm recorded at Moore Park versus a typical 219.6mm, nearly 49% less. The order is crucial to avoid further restrictions or supply outages in the coming weeks due to ongoing pressure on water resources.
The Stradbally GAA club would like to acknowledge the unsung contribution of the men who week in, week out, answer “yes” to the invariable question from a team mentor, “will you do umpire?” Men in the club who contribute by doing umpiring and linesmen at our matches up and down the county are a valuable part of our commitment to the games.
A huge thank you to our amazing community for supporting our soccer field upgrades this off-season. Thanks to your generosity through fundraisers, we’ve installed new perimeter fencing, by Waterford Farm Relief Services, and brand-new dugouts from Croom Concrete. Special thanks to Liam Whelan Plant Hire Ltd for their vital contribution. These improvements have created a fantastic facility for all ages to enjoy. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who fundraised, volunteered or helped spread the word. Your support made this possible, and we look forward to kicking off the new season with you all.
Well done to Kevin Óg Coffey, Ballydwan, who represented his school, Our Lady of Mercy Primary School, on the Primary School Games team at halftime in last Sunday's All-Ireland Football Final. Kevin is part of the U12 squad in the Stradbally club. The club is very appreciative of the effort being put in by the principals and staff of the schools in our parish to promote Gaelic games among the children.
