Local Notes: Sympathies, graveyard Mass, tractor run news and more

Well done to the Touraneena Runner’s Club Ladies who completed the Clonmel Half Marathon last weekend.
There was great sadness in the community and beyond at the news of the passing of Michéal Quinlan, Knockboy, Ballinamult. Michéal had a lifelong passion for G.A.A. and was deeply involved with the Sliabh gCua/St. Mary’s G.A.A. Club, where he served with dedication and held the role of Club President until his passing. A man with a strong sense of community spirit, Michéal greatly enjoyed the company of others and was especially fond of a good sing-song. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by many. Michéal is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Nora, and brothers-in-law, Noel Power and Paddy Phelan. We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Bridget (née Lonergan), daughter Marie, son Thomas, son-in-law Noel Flynn, daughter-in-law Lydia, sisters Anna Power, Helen Quinlan, and Mary Catherine Phelan, grandchildren Johnny, Izzie, Amelia, Daniel and Alfie, extended family, neighbours and many friends. Michéal’s final journey began at the G.A.A. clubhouse in Kirwan Park, where a guard of honour was formed to accompany him to St. Mary’s Church, Touraneena. Requiem Mass was followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
The annual Knockboy Graveyard mass will be held on September 8 at 7pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards. All are welcome.
The club would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported our recent BBQ and raffle in aid of the Déise Day Centre. The event was a great success and was only possible thanks to the efforts and generosity of so many. A special thanks to Richie, Rita, and Dan for the cooking, Eileen and Paddy for the use of their premises, and Mike Sheehan for providing the music. We are also very grateful to our food and raffle sponsors, Hallahan’s Pharmacy, Murray’s Pharmacy, and the GAA Club for their generous support. Finally, thank you to the committee members who helped with the organisation, set-up, and clean-up. Your support was greatly appreciated.
