Local Notes: Sympathies, fitness classes, open mic night and more
An open mic night will take place in Tramore, in Klub Muzik in May.
The death occurred of Irene Britton (née: Forde), Abbey Drive, Abbey Park, Ferrybank, and formerly of Elm Park, Tramore, Co. Waterford, on Wednesday, April 15th. Irene passed away peacefully in her 96th year, in the tender and loving care of her family and the dedicated staff of the South East Palliative Care Centre, Oak Ward, University Hospital Waterford. She was predeceased by her beloved sons Edward and Gary, and her son-in-law John. Irene was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her sons Robert, John, Jeffrey and Peter, her daughters Sandra and Debbie, her son-in-law Greg, her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her extended family, neighbours and friends. Irene’s Requiem Mass took place on Friday morning in The Sacred Heart Church, Ferrybank, followed by her burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Fitness classes are held at Riverstown Community Centre in Tramore. Classes take place on Tuesdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 11.45pm. All fitness levels are welcome, and a variety of classes are available to suit everyone. Options include Zumba, Pilates, Pilates with small equipment, Oriental Dance and women’s practice, TaiâBo, and Body Ballet. These classes are designed to help improve strength, flexibility, and overall energy levels. Come along to stay active, feel good, and enjoy moving in a friendly environment. Klub Muzik, established in 1997, is hosting an exciting Open Mic Night where the stage is yours to enjoy. This lively event will take place on Friday, May 8th, with the doors opening at 6.30pm and performances beginning at 7pm. Musicians, singers, poets, and performers of all kinds are invited to showcase their talent in a welcoming and energetic atmosphere. Entry costs €5, while musicians can take part for free. Whether you are there to perform or simply to enjoy the creativity and live music, this promises to be a colourful and entertaining night not to be missed.
The Revive Café takes place every Thursday at Riverstown Community Centre from 12.30pm to 3pm and offers a warm, relaxed space for seniors from the Tramore area and beyond. Visitors can enjoy a pleasant afternoon with tea, coffee, cakes, fresh rolls, homemade soup, a hot lunch, and dessert. Each week also includes a free raffle, with every attendee receiving a ticket. A popular feature of the café is the Free Table, which is restocked weekly with a range of grocery items that guests are welcome to take home. If there is plenty available, attendees are also invited to bring an extra portion of lunch home to enjoy later. Best of all, everything at The Revive Café is completely free. Freya Marsh, aged 13, from Tramore, has secured another gold medal for Ireland, achieving her fifth consecutive victory at the IBJJF European Jiu-Jitsu Championships - an exceptional accomplishment. Freya represents Jiu-Jitsu Waterford, and sincere thanks are extended to Cian Flanagan of Raise The Bar, Tramore for his continued excellence in strength and conditioning support. Appreciation is also given to Ardu Digital and Cian Murphy for their ongoing support.
The death occurred of Gráinne Bowler, Skerries, Co. Dublin, and formerly of Tramore, on Wednesday, April 22nd. She passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospice, Raheny, with her sons by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Noel Bowler. Gráinne is deeply mourned and will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted sons, Greg and Tim, her nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family, and a large circle of friends. She had previously worked with Aer Lingus at Dublin Airport and was a valued and popular member of Skerries Golf Club. Her Funeral Mass took place on Monday in St. Patrick’s Church, Skerries, followed by cremation in Dardistown Crematorium.
