Summer Sessions

Tramore will come alive this weekend with the annual outdoor music event: the Tramore Summer Sessions. This exciting festival kicks off on Saturday, bringing a variety of acts from near and far to the town. The event was organised because, despite the bustling activity around Summer in the City, it was felt that Tramore was lacking something special during the summer season. Unfortunately, the festival did not qualify for the Council Festival Grant. However, thanks to the generous support from local businesses, the event will remain free for all attendees. The Tramore Summer Sessions promises a full day of entertainment, designed to be family-friendly, from 2pm to 10.30 PM on Saturday, July 27, in the Baldy Man Car Park.

The lineup for the event is packed with talent starting at 2pm, when The Symbolics will perform for an hour and a half followed by the No Clue band at 3.30pm. At 5pm, Mad Ferritt, Ireland’s original Oasis tribute act consisting of a group of local musicians, will take the stage and then at 6,30pm, 18-year-old Jamie Cartwright, from Liverpool will showcase his talent. The event will culminate with a stunning performance by the UK’s Coldplace, a leading tribute to Coldplay, at 8.30pm.

This will be one of only two performances by the band in Ireland, making it a must-see for fans. Coldplace will wrap up the festival with a live concert celebrating the music of one of the most successful bands of all time, finishing at 10.30pm. Don’t miss this incredible day of music and community spirit in Tramore.

The Car Park next to the Baldy Man / Sands Hotel will close on Friday, July 26 until Sunday, July 28, for the sessions.

Tramore Eco Group

Tramore Eco Group recently worked on the Estuary Road meadow. They cut out some of the dock leaf plants that were spreading out of control. This helps more of the wildflower to grow for the bees and butterflies. Also, the group are delighted to say that there were owlets born in the indoor Barn Owl Boxes (about 9 weeks old) and an outdoor box has a nesting pair with its chicks. Credit to Andrew for making the boxes.

Late Larry Curran

Former Waterford Crystal worker, Larry (Laurence) Curran, late of Elm Park, Tramore, and formerly of The Gap, Riverstown, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 9.

Larry will be sadly missed by his wife Margaret, his children Elizabeth, Tony and Mark, his grandchildren Dylan, Sam, and Anna, his daughter-in-law Deirdre, son-in-law Ronan, his sisters Mary, Frances, Mags, Ann, Bernie and Yvonne and his brothers Mossy and Noel. He is predeceased by his beloved parents Peggy and Tommy and his brother Chris. Larry’s Requiem Mass was held on Saturday morning at The Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore, with burial in St. Declan’s Cemetery.

Community Market

The next Tramore Community Market will take place on August 4, at the Tramore GAA Centre in Co. Waterford (X91 XD99). This is a fantastic opportunity to support local vendors, discover unique crafts, and delicious homemade treats. The market will take place from 11am until 3pm. As always, the market will feature a wide variety of stalls, including local artisans, food producers, and crafters. It's a great chance to meet neighbours and experience the vibrant community of local small businesses.

Late Philip O'Brien

On Wednesday, July 10, Philip O'Brien, late of Sweet Briar Lawn, Tramore, and formerly of Congress Place, Waterford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of Telecom Eireann, Philip will be remembered by his heartbroken wife Kathy, his children Kerry, Siobhan and Philip, his grandchildren Liadain, Aoibhi and Finn, Kerry's partner Kieran and Philips partner Joni. Having reposed in Falconer's Funeral Home, Riverstown, on Thursday evening, his Requiem Mass was on Friday at The Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore and he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Tramore AFC

Tramore AFC were well represented in the Tower Hotel recently at the Waterford Junior League end of year awards night.

The Youth A Player of the Year went to Jack Ahern and the top scorer was Jack Caulfield. Jamie Clancy won the Youth B Player of the Year, with the top scorer Daragh Poyner. Joshua Roche picked up two awards, winning the U17A Player of the Year and top scorer. The division 2B Player of the Year went to the evergreen Leigh Quilty. Also, the league acknowledged the Oscar Traynor winning panel and Youth interleague panel who had plenty of Tramore representation. Well done to all the winners and roll on 2024 season.

Tidy Towns

Tramore Tidy Towns, in the next week or so, will introduce our group to all as we are now. We will show the people behind the scenes and those out doing out beach pick and the weeding and planting, the people that help and support us and also we will go to different areas in Tramore where we will be in the next few weeks, and areas we would like to see upgraded, so stay tuned to our Tidy Towns group.

Late Catherine (Kitty) Cantwell

We extend our sympathy to the family of Catherine (Kitty) Cantwell (née: Holden), St Otteran’s Terrace, Tramore, and formerly of Knockbrack, Bigwood, Co Kilkenny, who passed away on Wednesday, July 17.
