Well done to the group from Dungarvan who took place in the South-East 24 Hour Film challenge. Committee member Gina McGrath and her daughter Lisa Dunne were members of the cast and crew that entered this competition with their composition, ‘Echoes in Grey’, written by Martina Collender. It was produced by John Foley from Dungarvan and Directed by Deirdre Collender, Dungarvan and it was a mammoth undertaking. A piece of script, a selection of cast, a production crew, numerous props, a specific Waterford Location (Annestown House) and 24 hours to put it all together – resulting in a 5 minute film entry. An inordinate amount of work goes into any film and one that has to be put together in 24 hours is a massive achievement. The filming took place on Saturday, July 19, commencing at 12 noon. The editing and cutting began that evening and continued into the morning of July 20, with the submission to be made by 12 noon that day. The screening and awards took place on Sunday evening, July 20, resulting in a fast and furious weekend. While the crew did not win the overall prize of €1,000 we did take away a number of accolades. We got Best Cinematography, Best Production, Best Sound, Best grade and Video FX, Best Production Design award and Best Director Award. Not a shabby show by any means. It was a fantastic team effort and was an amazing experience. Huge congratulations to John Foley and Deirdre Collender for drawing this team together and achieving such success.

Well now, as two of our neighbouring county teams went head-to-head for the All-Ireland title on Sunday last. The first half of the match held some hope of two top teams giving us a game of huge entertainment and a close fought contest. But the second half told a different story. I don’t know what Tipperary coaches and mentors said at half time but their men came out on fire for the second half and literally destroyed Cork to take the title with a very comprehensive win. We did not get an epic game of hurling to end the season but we did see a team that will be a force to be reckoned with next season. The 2025 Liam MacCarthy Cup, the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship title goes to Tipperary, and well deserved too.
With the Waterford Hurlers well retired for this year, we still have the ladies in contention for some titles. The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Semi-Final takes place in Nowlan Park Kilkenny this Saturday, July 26, at 5pm, when Waterford take on Cork. Cappoquin, are privileged to say that their Camogie Club has two players on the field on Saturday. Best of luck to Lorraine Bray and Orla Hickey in their quest to get to an All-Ireland – the county will be roaring you all on. The Waterford Minor Ladies Football team take on Westmeath in the ZuCar All-Ireland U18 Championship Final (Division C) on Saturday, July 26, in Baltinglass GAA, Wicklow. So hats of to them for getting to this stage and the very best of luck to all players and mentors in their quest for All-Ireland glory. Bring it home girls.
