Sailing Race

A great day and a busy pier day was experience in Tramore Bay recently as the fleet from Waterford Harbour Sailing Club competed in a sailing race from Dunmore East to Tramore.

Following a break for sustenance and family fun in the Ritz Bar they continued with a race back to Dunmore East. Many thanks to all who joined in to support the RNLI. They were very grateful to local businesses for their generous support. Thanks to those who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and helped to make the afternoon a great success. Thanks to John Sheedy at The Ritz, Tramore for hosting and for his continued generous support. Also thanks to Dave Kenny for organising and Paul Halley from our fundraising team for his time and support. We look forward to seeing you for Tramore Bay Race 2025.

Rescue

The crew of Tramore Lifeboat RNLI assisted in a multi-agency rescue on Saturday, July 20, after a person sustained a hip fracture on Tramore Beach. Pagers alerting the volunteer lifeboat crew were activated at 12.45pm requesting the launch of the inshore lifeboat. Tramore Coast Guard and the Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117, from Waterford, were also deployed. The lifeboat helmed by Fergal McGrath with Dave McGrath, Nóirín Phelan, and Ward Griffin onboard, made its way to Tramore beach where Tramore RNLI crew member, Conor McCarthy, a qualified physiotherapist, was on scene with Tramore lifeguards. The casualty was handed over to the care of the National Ambulance Service and onward to University Hospital Waterford for further treatment.

False Alarm

On Tuesday July 23, following a report that a swimmer was in difficulty off Kilfarrasay beach, the volunteer lifeboat crew responded to the sound of their pagers at 11am. The report was made from a member of the public who had heard a shout for help. The lifeboat, helmed by Dave McGrath, with crew members Nóirín Phelan and Will Palmer onboard, launched minutes supported by our dedicated shore crew. The crew were stood down shortly afterwards as it transpired that the call had been a false alarm with good intent.

As we continue to enjoy the summer holidays, the RNLI would remind anyone planning a trip or activity at sea to enjoy themselves but to go prepared. Always check weather and tides before venturing out, always wear a lifejacket or suitable flotation device for your activity. Always let someone on the shore know where you are going and when you are due back. Carry a means of communication and should you get into difficulty or see someone else in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

Late Paddy Kelly

There was great sadness throughout Tramore on Sunday morning, July 21, following the death of Paddy Kelly from Springmount, Tramore and formerly of The Gap, Riverstown, Tramore.

He was predeceased by his brother Pierce. Paddy will be sadly missed by his heartbroken wife Phyllis (nee: Partridge), his loving sons Paul, Tony and Peter, his adoring grandchildren Aisling, Katie, David, Tommy, Ellen and Anna, his sister Kay and brother Martin, his daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and all his grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He will be forever missed by all his relatives, extended family, wonderful neighbours and many friends. He was a longtime member of Micheál MacCraith GAA Club, served on the club executive for some years, and was an efficient club secretary. Paddy's remains reposed in Falconer’s Funeral home on Tuesday and funeral Mass took place at The Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Boules

Tramore Petanque Group is a newly established group of people who love playing boules. They play on Saturdays around 11am, beside the Majestic Hotel Carpark. Everyone is welcome and no experience is needed. Petanque and boules are two different names for the same game. In French, the word 'boule' means 'ball' and in France people often refer to the game simply as boules. Outside of France the game is usually referred to as 'Petanque'.

Tramore Tidy Towns

Even though the summer of 2024 hasn’t been great so far, when taking a little stroll through the town you can see all the beautiful flowers that we have planted and have been caring for over the past weeks and months.

Even if the sky is grey there is plenty colour to be seen which is sure to brighten your day. The Tidy Towns were also delighted to see some of the lovely window boxes and displays in gardens all over the town, Tramore is really bursting with colour. A big buladh bos to the volunteers for all the work they put in throughout the year, and to the residents of our wonderful town who take such pride in their gardens and window displays. As Tramore is continually growing and expanding, Tramore Tidy Towns is keen to add more volunteers to our number.

If you share the passion that we have in caring for our community, please get in touch. Lending even the smallest part your week can make a huge difference and would be very much appreciated. You will join a very welcoming group who enjoy making Tramore just that little bit better, you will make fast friends and have plenty of fun. Simply get in touch with Tramore Tidy Towns via Facebook or chat to one of the volunteers should you see them out and about.

Scouting Fun

Tramore Scouts 8th were thrilled to open their campsite for the night to a wonderful group of French Girl Guides. Some of the local Scouts and Ventures were out at the site and they had a blast meeting them, swapping badges, and exchanging neckers. It was an evening full of laughter, learning, and newfound friendships. A huge thank you to the French friends for making it a memorable evening.
