Local Notes: RLNI quiz, local boxing success and a space for people to chat as Gaeilge

A friendly and informal Ciorcal Cómhra continue to meet every Thursday at 7pm in Tramore Library, offering a relaxed space for people to chat as Gaeilge.
The group welcome speakers of all levels, from beginners with a few words to those rediscovering or confidently using the language.
The gatherings are free of charge and full of good humour, with many attendees surprised by how quickly their Irish returns once they begin chatting.
With Seachtain na Gaeilge completed, it is an ideal chance to try a cúpla focal in a warm and supportive setting.

Local businessman Paddy Power, late of Westown, Tramore, and formerly of Paddy Power Plumbing and Heating and P.J. Matthews, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, surrounded by his loving family.
Paddy was sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Renee, his children Ciarán, Austin and Lynda, his cherished grandchildren Ellen, Aisling, Noah and Erin, and his brother Maurice.
Paddy’s reposal took place at Falconers Funeral Home, Riverstown, on Thursday. His Requiem Mass was held on Friday morning in the Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore, after which he was laid to rest in St. Declan’s Cemetery.
Tramore Men’s Shed continue to meet every second Tuesday upstairs in the Coastguard Cultural Centre, with alternative Tuesdays dedicated to a coffee and chat in venues around the town.

The group is also seeking a permanent premises and would welcome contact from any local businesses with a suitable space or serviced site available.

Tramore RNLI recently held its annual fundraising quiz in The Ritz Bar, Tramore, with Kris Cowming acting as quiz master for the evening.
The organisation extended its thanks to everyone who attended and supported the event, as all proceeds will go directly towards the vital work of the lifeboat crew.
In a statement, Tramore RNLI congratulated the winning team and praised Kris Cowming for expertly hosting the quiz.
They also expressed their gratitude to John and Aaron Sheedy of The Ritz Bar for providing the venue, along with sincere thanks to all sponsors for their continued generosity.
The group thanked everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets, or contributed in any way to making the night such a success.
They added that community events like this play an important role in helping ensure the lifeboat crew is always ready to respond when needed.
A Clothes Swap event will take place in Tramore Library on Thursday, March 26, beginning at 6pm sharp.
Members of the public are invited to say goodbye to fast fashion by exchanging their old and unwanted clothing items for pieces that are new to them.
Participants may drop off up to five items of good quality adult clothing from 10am on Thursday, March 26.
In return, they will receive swap tokens, which can be used at the Clothes Swap that evening.
This event is part of ReThink, ReWork, ReCreate, a Creative Waterford and Waterford Libraries initiative that will run in Tramore Library throughout 2026.
Tramore celebrated a remarkable sporting achievement as Maci Rockett was crowned Irish National Girls Boxing Champion at the National Stadium in Dublin, recently.
Maci took home the gold medal after winning unanimously against a two-time national champion - a phenomenal accomplishment for both her and women’s sport in Tramore.
Her family, friends, and coaches have expressed immense pride in her success, and the support from the wider community has been outstanding.
A special word of thanks goes to her coach, Jimmy Payne, for the dedication and hard work he has put in behind the scenes, as well as to all the coaches at Winter’s Boxing Club who have helped guide Maci on her journey.
