Local Notes: Riddle of the week, Sliabh gCua Lotto, graveyard mass and heritage week

The Déise Draw supports clubs around the county
The annual graveyard mass at St Mary’s Church, Touraneena, will be held on Wednesday, Saturday, August 14, at 7pm. There will also be a collection on the night towards the upkeep of the graveyard.
Due to the bank holiday weekend the lotto draw took place last Monday night instead of the usual Sunday night. Results will be in this column next week.

For anybody interested in the history of the Italo-Irish entrepreneur Charles Bianconi (September 24, 1786 - September 22, 1875) the Bianconi Mortuary Chapel in Boherlahan village, Cashel, will be open to the public during Heritage Week on three different days, August 17, 18 and 24, from 2pm and 5pm.
Having donated land to the parish of Boherlahan for the construction of a parish church, Bianconi wished to be buried on the church grounds. He and his family are buried in a side chapel, separate from the parish church, approximately five miles from Cashel, County Tipperary. During National Heritage week an exhibition in the church will outline Bianconi's life and times and the story behind the construction of the Chapel.
The display will also explain the project currently under way for the conservation and maintenance of the chapel. An Architectural Heritage Report on the building is being prepared and planned work includes preservation of the Benzoni marble reliefs inside. Bianconi is often described as the "man who put Ireland on wheels" as he developed a network of horse-drawn coaches that became Ireland's "first regular public transport" system. He eventually became known for his innovations in transport and was twice Mayor of Clonmel. Next year will be the 150th anniversary of his death. The National Heritage week exhibition is free to all. The Panda Playground is now open at Ballymacarbry Community Centre and we are thrilled to announce that the fencing has been taken down and the facility is open for everyone to enjoy. This amazing amenity is a fantastic addition to the community, providing a wonderful space for kids and families to play, relax, and create lasting memories.
To date, you have helped us raise an amazing €131,950 towards our target of €170,000. However, we still need your support to cover the remaining costs. We have taken out a loan to complete the remaining works, so we encourage anyone who hasn’t yet donated to please do so. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will help us reach our goal.
How to Donate: Online Transfer: Acc Name: BCC Playground Development; Acc No: 08401549; Sort Code: 935379; BIC: AIBKIE2D; IBAN: IE04 AIBK 9353 7908 4015 49 cash or cheque.
You can drop off your donation at the community centre or hand it to one of our committee members. We are incredibly fortunate to be part of such a supportive community and we appreciate your generosity and spirit. Thank you for your continued support. Also a huge thank you to Martin and Lena from Tesco Ireland, Clonmel for making the trip to the playground last week. Thanks to the Blue Token campaign in the Clonmel Tesco store our playground fund received over €800 from Tesco. This made a huge difference to our campaign. The good news is, Panda Playground will be included in the next instore Clonmel Tesco campaign, so please make sure to vote for our playground as you do your weekly shop.
